macromedia players flash : Installing Flash on Off-Line PC

I tried to install the Flash Player on an off-line PC and have not had any
luck. The current installation method was designed to be easy and not offer
this sort of flexibility. As for the PC it?s running Win98 SE and old enough
that I don?t care if some 5 year olds wreck. Since it doesn?t run most newer
games, I was hoping to set some retro flash games.

I did find the flash cab file in the internet temp files and when I found it
to be an executable I tried to install it on the other PC. Not knowing where to
install it I dumped it onto the C drive. When I tried to play some flash files
there was no file association and Flash wasn't on the list.

So what did I do wrong?

Thanks!

Another question... does Flash Player only work in a browser? Or is it a stand
alone player? I ask because on this old PC, there's not a lot of hard drive
space.

I have seen what was called a "stand alone" flash player called Flash Player
XP. But when I installed it, it seems to require the Adobe Flash Player.
