macromedia players flash : Linux Flash Player Bugs

Hi guys. I just tried the last flash player for Linux and I'm glad to see that
a lot of the problems I had with the betas where solved with this version.
Great job...

One problem I noticed with the latest version that was also present in the
betas, has to do with some sort of layering problems. Basically content in
flash comes over anything that might be in its way. The first site I noticed
this problem was www.adobe.com. The menus open behind the flash screen.

Here are a couple of screenshots showing what I am talking about:

My system is Gentoo 2006.1; Pentium M 2.0GHz; 1Gb RAM and the browser Firefox
2.0:sad;

Can you guys try to open this http://global.monatoesprit.com/

Here in firefox the website garbages flash content in such a way that you
can't actually see nothing on it. I'm using an resolution of 1024x768.

I dunno how this should be displayed in IE but here is a total waste.

Lets wait for official reply on the "over everything" bug

I agree, this is been a long standing bug. It also seems related to bad window
geometry calculations.. Whenever the problem crops up, the Flash window is
much larger and well outside it's nominal bounds.

I am too experiencing the same issue. So is everyone at work. We have about 600 linux machines to deploy this too and we can't seem to get it to work correctly.

Got to love how Adobe refuses even to acknowledge the issue. Perfect example of why NOT to buy adobe products. Simply their support sucks.

There are a whole lot of long standing bugs, severe bugs, that they don't
acknowledge. I have never seen anyone from Adobe contribute anything in any
way to these forums. Their silence screams volumes. The best solution would
be turn FlashPlayer into an open source project. If it were open source, all
these problems would have been solved long ago.

I too am having this problem and its quite annoying. I've spent hours looking
for a solution and can't find a thing. I wish Adobe would at least acknowledge
the issue and let us know they're working on it or not.

The reason we haven't responded is because my team (Player support) only deals
with Flash Player install cases and crashes. Playback issues would be
reported through the bug reporting form in the Linux Player readme. These
get filed for investigation and consideration for future release (bu thtere
wouldn't necessarily be a public response).

That said, Engineering is investigating this. The root of the problem is that
no linux browsers support WMODE transparency. So other possibilities are being
looked at but no firm solutions or timeframes yet.

Translation: "It's been on our list of known bug for 3 years and our engineers
have no idea how if we will ever be able to fix it. Linux users are second
class after all as we make 0 revenue from linux."

BTW the latest update still does not resolve this issue. Go Silverlight!
Pretty sad day when a linux user has to cheer for MS to get proper web support.
