macromedia players flash : Install - test - it WORKS! however....

This has happened to me three different times so far.  I installed the latest
free Flash Player (after quitting all browsers) on my MacPro Laptop,
OSX.4.  Immediately after, I was able to view the test page okay, then resumed
viewing the previous page I was on that I could not view.  All Good!  A basic
install of any application is not new territory to me - the installers usually
handle everything themselves (putting what where).

Days later, I find I am cannot watch anything on any page!!  What's going
on?  I normally keep all players and plugins updated so that when I browse
multimedia pages, I don't have this problem.

Can anyone shed some light on what may be happening? Thank you! :)

I went to the Apple.com site and found the following: (which worked! hope it
keeps working! knock on wood)

"Go to either the Main or User Library>Internet Plug-ins and move these two
files to the trash:
Flash Player.plugin
flashplayer.xpt

Also, move to the trash: (either main or user library)
Preferences>Macromedia: Flash Player

Open Disk Utility, highlight your HD, then "repair permissions".

Lastly, download a fresh copy of Flash player installer.

Install. Do not use the computer during the install. When complete, Safari
automatically opens to the Adobe Flash page confirming the plug-in was
correctly installed.

Quit Safari and once again "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in the
Utilities folder."

This worked for me. (and te original poster at the Apple.com site.)

Good luck anyone out there...........

sorry saxylady13,

I had posted a message soon after bfr000's post saying, yes. I agree, it
stopped working for me too.

This is ridiculous.

I have had ONLY Mac desktops for 15 years.... THIS IS A FIRST!! (is it the new
Rosetta junk?)

Someone screwed up and is not being held accountable.

My LIFE/Profession is all about FLASH/web interaction and I cannot view my own
stuff that I upload to the web! nor anyone else's! Pathetic! and BORING!!!!!!

:mad;

THIS WORKED!!! BIG TIME!!!!!!!!

FROM THE FIREFOX WEBSITE FORUM:

The settings in the Quicktime System Pref pane is different in the later OSX
upgrades. In the pane, select the Advanced Tab. You will find a MIME settings
button, click this. Open up each one of the settings. Two of them (Images, and
Miscellaneous) have a selection for Flash. Deselect those two. After I did this
and restarted Firefox, the problem went away.

THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO WORKED IMMEDIATELY FOR BOTH SAFARI AND FIREFOX!!!!!
YIP-FRICKEN-EEEEEEE!!!
