:frown; I have an HP PC runnning XP Media Editon with SP2. It has 1GB of
memory, a 250 GB hard drive, 90% empty. I have McAfee Security Suite and Trend
Micro Anti-Spyware both running. My Browser is Internet Explorer V6 and my ISP
is Verizon DSL. I have tried numerous times to download flash player directly
from Adobe and through links on other websites. It starts, but never finishes
and installs. I don't get any error messages. I've had Adobe tech support
attempt to help without success. I've followed the instructions on the Adobe
website for how to resolve install problems all to no avail. I don't know
where to turn at this point. Has anyone had similar problems that they've
eventually resolved and if so how or any suggestions?

I have seen lately where an 'Everyone' - 'Deny' is being set on the subkeys of
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000},
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}, and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}

On a single PC, the easiest fix is to start regedit, navigate to those keys
and remove the everyone account.

For whatever reason, the top-level key does not have this account and the
subkeys are not set to propogate but rather the account (with the Deny
restriction) is explicitly set on each key.

After removing the account restrictions, I was able to update the Flash to 9d
without problems.

If, like me, you have several computers to do this to, setup a script with
REGINI.exe

That's incorrect. You can open a web case for email only support (no phone
support is available). You can use http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer
(follow the contact info on the bottom)

That said, I commonly see this problem described as "can't download". Which is
incorrect. You can download. And you can run the installer.. the problem is
that the install is failing because of registry permission problems.

A few days ago I posted an -extensive- troubleshooting post on this topic.
That's what you should be going through.
