macromedia players flash: I have NEVER had a problem with using any version of the flash player, and
currently have the most recent version installed. I'm using Windows XP and
have been for quite awhile. I have been trying to 'enter' a particular
website = www.jamesdean.com and have been unable to do so. After typing in the
web address (shown above), the page starts to load and then disappears and
gives me this message: Flash Support: This site uses flash player 6; click
here to download a free player, etc. etc., and then re-enter the site. I have
done this repeatedly until I'm blue in the face. Installed, uninstalled,
re-installed, etc. NOTHING seems to work. I have friends who go to the site,
and do not have any problem! When the flash player message comes up, the
browser (if that's the right word) says: http://www.jamesdean.com/default.htm.

I would appreciate it SO much if someone could tell me WHY I'm the only one
having a problem with this particular site, when all my friends are able to
view it with the current version of the flash player and I cannot.

Thank you so much in advance for any help anyone can give me! I am totally
frustrated.

Gail,

It's easily possible that the cause of the problem is an error in the way that
developer has implemented Flash Player detection. Looking at the code on the
final entry page it seems like they're using some pretty old (and
unsophisticated) FP detection..

I assume you're using some flavor of Internet Explorer, probably version 6,
right? When you go to this page, what do you SEE where the Flash content
should be???

Or are you saying that you -always- get bumped back to their /default.htm
page???

I'm using IE6 currently and AOL is my ISP. I have tried to access the site in
question by going directly through AOL AND by going through Internet Explorer
(which I have to do in order to play a couple of games that do not totally load
on AOL). Anyway, as I said, when I try to access the site their "home page"
starts to come up for about 3 seconds, then disappears and another screen comes
up that gives me the 2 messages as I stated in my original post about "Flash
Support". Knowing that I already HAVE the current flash player installed (and
it seems to be working just fine!), I have even tried shutting down the
computer after completely uninstalling and re-installing the flash player.
Nothing seems to resolve this issue. What I can't understand is, is that I
know several people who can access the jamesdean.com site with no problems at
all.

Any other suggestions? Yes, I ALWAYS get bumped back to the default.htm page.

Gail,

I think that this is probably some variation of the IE permission problems I
wrote about in the post ' New Messages
[ADOBE] Resolving Windows Flash Player permission-related issues 9/2007'.

They can be hard to solve. But find that post of mine (I'll bump it to the
top of the forum) and do your best.

Thanks for your 'bump'. I had already seen your post about permisson-related
issues and I completely performed the instructions as outlined in Section One.
I am hesitant, however, to go any further than that because I'm not totally
comfortable with all aspects of computer-related problems. I think, now, I
will try to get some professional help from someone who can sit down with me
and possibly resolve this situation. I appreciate the input you gave me....
thanks much!
