macromedia players flash : Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix

Hi all,
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate last weekend, and like many I found that
the flash player did not work on many sites including YouTube etc.

Well, the good news is I think I have the fix that many of you have been
looking for:

I navigated my way to:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Then right clicked over both 'Flash9b.ocx' and 'FlashUtil9b.exe', and chose
properties.

In properties choose the 'security' tab > Click on the 'everyone' account, and
the button called 'edit' and then tick the box called 'allow full control' and
also choose your own Windows local account name.

Once you have done this for both files run the FlashUtil9b.exe and it should
install and update and tell you to restart. Do so and you should find that
YouTube and other sites that use flash now work.

Let me know how you get on.

I am an IT technician by profession, and I was getting so frustrated by it. So
I sat down this morning and just tackled it.

Delighted to hear that I have solved for you. Why in the world Adobe hasn't is
beyond me! It would be polite if they wrote and thanked me!!! ;-)

As many others in this forum, I too had problems installing Flash Player.
Really ticked me off since I was restricted from viewing some of my websites
using Vista. Your suggestion really helped me out! Thanks a lot theopenworld!
You should be working for Adobe!

Just to be safe, assign the files their original security settings after you
restart. It looks like the OCX permissions are automatically reset after
reboot, but check to make sure.

Alternatively, you can simply:

Right-click C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9b.exe
Select "Run as Administrator" and install the update
Restart your computer

This way, there's no need to mess with file security permissions.

Another alternative is to use Firefox under Vista. :grin;:beer;

Great fix Daniel, here's a slightly easier way to go about it.

Vista (32bit) go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed folder

Vista(64bit) go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed folder

open the folder and right click on FlashUtil9b.exe, then left click run as
administrator. The flash player installer should now start and once it
completes, flash player should work fine and appear on the uninstall or change
program list.

This issue is related to how Windows Vista's security features prevent
applications from changing registry settings (even if you are logged in as an
administrator) you must explicitly allow programs to make certain changes to
the registry.

Can Adobe/Macro please post this as an official guide till they figure out a
way to get it to work on vista with the installer itself? Took about an hour
to find out this fix. And I'm sure people who aren't computer savvy would of
been able to find this.

I've tried this a couple of times unsuccessfully.

Flash Player refuses to work anywhere on my machine unless I turn of UAC. Then
it works just fine. Under all accounts, when I open Manage Add-Ons, I can see
that Flash Player has been loaded by IE7, but it does not run.

All IE7 settings are default.

So, I do believe it is a permissions problem.

A word of caution, the best method is to run as system administrator unless you
are a security or it person, the reason I say this is because by changing the
Everyone "group" to full control it opens up your computer to hackers. So it's
best just to run as administrator in almost all cases.

And do you have administator access?

I would uninstall and prvious Flash versions you may have. Then restart > then
install flash for

eFlash&promoid=BIOW. And then follow my orginal instructions.

Hello all and especially theopenworld,
I too am having problems installing Flash on our new laptop running Vista
(home premium version though not sure what bit it is). I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling going through the c drive etc. At first I did
not see the 'FlashUtil9b.exe' but then realized it only appears after you
install it. So I try to run as administrator and it says it downloads but it
really doesn't as I still cannot access any sites that use it. I have also
tried changing the security tabs but that does not help (nor does it take
effect after I restart). Can anybody provide any more help? It's really
become frustrating. I've read some things having to do with registry issues.
I don't know a lot about computers and have heeded their advice to not try to
deal with the registry because I might really mess things up! Theopenworld has
seemed to help so many folks. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi momtotwo,

Several things here - did you get Vista as an upgrade from XP, or are you
running a new PC?

Secondly, start from scratch, uninstall Flash, Shockwave etc. Then restart >
then install flash for
[h]http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=Shock
waveFlash&promoid=BIOW[/h]. I see from your message that you said you are
trying to 'run as administrator'. That is not what you should be doing; you
should be only altering the Security Tab options. You also did not mention that
you altered the ?Flash9b.ocx? security settings on the file. One you have
changed these, restart the PC then try YouTube etc.

Give that a try and come back if you still need help.

Hi there theopenworld and all,
To answer your first question, we just bought a new HP laptop which the
"geeks" (at a major computer retailer who shall remain nameless) loaded Vista
on before we brought it home.
So, I tried your instructions to the "T" I believe. I uninstalled (using the
Flash uninstaller) Flash, restarted, loaded Flash per your link, changed the
security settings to full control on "everyone" on both Flash9b.ocx and
FIashutil9b and then double-clicked Flashutil9b to reinstall. It says it is
installed. I then restart and try to watch something on Youtube but it gives
me the message that either Javascript is turned off or I have an old version of
Flash. I also tried to run a game off PBSkids.org but it doesn't work either.
By the way, when I go to the Macromed Flash location of the C drive, I also
have a folder called FIDbg9b.ocx. Should that be there? Anyway, I know this
is not your problem by any means but I appreciate the time you have taken to
help. At this point, nobody else is. I left an e-mail for HP but no response.
The "geeks" tell me I need to bring it back in for them to diagnose the
problem. They sounded surprised that this was an issue which is funny to me as
it seems a lot of folks are having it. Thanks again.

Openworld,

I tried your fix, but the file macromed/flash is empty, even AFTER I install
adobe Flash9. I tried installing and restarting, and that did not populate the
files either. I also tried uninstalling and re-installing, but no luck. What
am I doing wrong?

Ok, so some people are still having trouble using Flash in Windows Vista. I am
getting masses of mail about it, mostly to say a successful fix, but a few not.
So here goes.

Ok, next line of attack if things still aren?t working in IE:

Download and install Flash from the following link (this is a manual install
and not the usual Adobe Flash installtion (but it is easy!)):
http://www.theopenworldtechnician.com/blogberry/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/insta
ll_flash_player.exe

Then try the orginal post I did back in February (at the beginning of this
thread).

If that still does not work for you (are running the above), try going to (in
Internet Explorer) Tools > Internet Options > Choose the ?Programs? tab > press
the manage ?add-ons? button. In the window make sure that Shockwave Flash
object is enabled (enable/disable options are at the bottom of the window).
Then OK your way out of the windows, close IE and then start it up and see what
happens.

3/22/2007 9:10:49 PM
Hi there theopenworld,
Again, thank you for taking the time on this issue. I tried the new link with
your instructions and did not have any luck. Also, tried the managing add-on's
but it was already saying enabled.
Now this is weird though, in talking with another company I bought some
software from, they suggested I try Firefox as my internet browser. I tried
that and everything works fine. I was able to download Flash and it's working
great. I was having problems with my Quicktime player through IE and now
that's good. I also could not print anything through IE and am able to print
through Firefox. I'll be using that as my work around for now but am going to
keep an eye on this thread to see if something starts working for IE for me as
I'm obsessive like that. I guess my big question now is just why does Firefox
work and not IE? I don't understand how that would make a difference. It's
crazy to me that Microsoft hasn't fixed this.

I found your directions quite helpful, however when I got to the Flash folder
you specified, there was no .exe extention on either of the files. I did as
you instructed, then I rebooted my notebook, double checked to make sure the
changes you suggested were still in place, and yet...the Flash still doesn't
work. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

I am also having problems with Flash player on Vista. It will not work
properly on IE or Firefox. The problem is that I get picture but no sound.

I have tried right-clicking on FlashUtil9b.exe, clicking Run as Administrator,
and then downloading the update-- it downloads, I restart, and the problem is
still there. I have tried uninstalling and then re-installing Flash and then
following those instructions to get the update. I checked Manage Add-ons in IE
and Flash is enabled (haven't been able to find that in Firefox). I have Vista
Home Premium on a new Dell Dimension E521 computer.

If someone could help me I would be tremendously grateful.

Hi everyone,

First, I would like to apologize to everyone that has had issues with Flash
Player on Vista and who could not find adequate resources to resolve the
problem on Adobe.com.

For users that updated from a previous version of Windows to Vista, one reason
your Flash Player may have stopped working after the upgrade is that the
original release of the player (version 9.0.16.0) was not Vista-compatible. We
started supporting Windows Vista in November 2006, with version 9.0.28.0. So
when you updated your machine, either you were trying to run an incompatible
player. By running the FlashUtil9b.exe program, it kicks off the auto-update
process and the new install of the correct version fixes the issue. It is
recommended that you resolve this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the
Flash Player. The auto-update program is not meant to be run directly.

Some other useful resources:

[Checking your player version]
If you want to check your current player version, go here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about. You will have to do this in each
browser you use, because the Internet Explorer (ActiveX) plugin is different
than the one used for Firefox. This page also contains a table that will tell
you the latest version for your operating system so you can be sure you have
the most recent version that includes any security updates.

[Resources in the Flash Player Support Center]
We have a number of installation technotes that can help walk you through
fixing your issue. A good one to start with is the Common Adobe Flash Player
Installation Issues Technote. (http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166)

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/

But if these resources really aren't helpful, or you they simply don't resolve
your issue, we offer free email-based installation support for the player.
http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/flashplayer/?tab:contact=1

[Some sites are telling me I need to get Adobe Flash Player, but I thought I
already had it installed?]
There are a few cases where the player *is* actually installed correctly but
it seems like it isn't. One of them is when a website is detecting a specific
version because their content requires a particular version or higher -- but
their detection is a little off. For example, a website might require Flash
Player 8 to view it and so it checks for that version. But it might not have
been written to handle the case when Flash Player 9 is available! You can
either email the webmaster of the site, or you can send it to us and we'll
contact them. (http://www.adobe.com/go/wish)

Another issue that sometimes occurs is that the Internet Explorer ActiveX is
installed but only partially registered for some reason, in which case sites
will detect a player installed but no Flash content displays. Possible issues
and resolutions are also covered in the Common Install Issues technote, and can
often be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling the player.

Uninstallers (http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157) are available on the Support
Center, or you can use Add/Remove Programs on Windows. To reinstall the player,
visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer.

Emmy Huang

This problem is driving me insane.

The Adobe 9.0.28.0 just refuses to install.

Even the manual kit posted earlier will not install. It created the directory
and put NPSWF32.DLL in it and quit.

I tried running installer as admin.

I shutoff UAC.

This is a clean install. No prior Adobe Flash.

Noithing shows up in installed programs or IE7 Addons.

All MicroSoft auto updates are applied.

Another clean installed Vista at work Flash installed no problem, but I had
bunch of other installed applications that may have made a difference.

So I can't apply the suggestion to change protections because those files are
not their to change.

When using the Browser install it just sits there and does nothing.

I tried disabling security completely in IE7. Still no ActiveX popup install.

I have seen a bunch of posts on the net with folks having similar issues.

I've rebuilt 3 machines and installed dozens of applications.

By FAR Adobe has been the worst and I can't recommend to friends to consider
Vista because of it.

mswlogo
4/11/2007 6:01:28 AM
I tried one more time.

This time I installed it through IE7 by using Manage Add-On and Clicking the
Link Download new Addons. I though perhaps Microsoft may of had a mirror copy.

The ActiveX Prompt finally popped up. But it looked like it was still coming
from Adobe.

I canceled and tried going straight to adobe to see if it was still failing.
But it also now popped up.

So I don't know if running the Manual Install (that failed) did something. Or
going through Manage Add Ons or there was a web site problem. But it now
finally installs.

Since this is 9.0.28 and adobes post above stating that 9.0.28 should work on
Vista I'll hold off changing protections for now until I run into a problem. It
does seem to be working.

mswlogo
4/11/2007 6:02:18 PM
Ok, next computer. Clean Vista Business install.

Same Exact problem (so it's not the web site).

I was not sure what fixed the last problem.

1) UAC off
2) Use Manual Install posted by theopenworld a few posts back.
3) Use Manage Add-Ons to Locate Adobe Flash rather than direct.

So on this next machine I did.

Nothing and went direct. Same failure.
Went through Manage Addons. Same Failure.
Install Manual Kit (which always fails) then direct to Adobe. Same failure.
Disabled UAC. Same failure.
Went through Manage Addons and Bingo it worked again !!!

When going through Manage Addons you click on a click on a link to Get Adobe
Flash 9.0.28 from C-Net and when you do you see the stupid Yahoo ToolBar option
included. But what is strange is it looks exactly like the same URL if you went
direct.

So some combination of the above works, but I ran out of "clean" machines to
find the minmal set. But going through Manage Addons seems to be one that is
required.

Hello, I want to thank everyone for all the suggestions, i've tried everything
SEVERAL times and NOTHING. Everything was working last week just fine. I even
tried a system restore to get back to last week and that didn't work. Having
same problems with flash, I install it says it installed, but NOTHING.. Using
vista and IE7 and about to return this computer and just start over which i'd
rather avoid doing!

Here's some things I noticed and found odd. With flash UNinstalled, if I run
AIM, AIM works fine. With flash INstalled, I run aim and it signs in ok and
everything, but you can't read messages sent or received to friends when trying
to chat. It still makes the noise that messages have been sent, but all you see
is a blank messenger box. Now, also with flash installed, using aim if I right
click on aim and "run as administrator" everything seems to work perfectly fine.

IE7 with flash installed I "run as administrator" and ALMOST everything seems
fine. Videos and songs play, but the auto scroll option if you drag your finger
on the mouse pad, that seems to be disabled?? (using laptop of course). I've
been trying and trying to fix this for over a week and absolutely NO success so
if anyone has a solution that might work for me that would be fantastic!! THANK
YOU!

...and I followed the steps to expand security permissions explained here by

Please help because I am also suffering a similar problem on my new Sony Vaio
with Vista.

When I am visiting new websites I am also getting blank boxes with red x's in
the corner, is this linked to thr problem below?

But my main problem is also downloading flash player, I have been trying now
for two days. I have follwed all the instructions, looked at every self help
troubleshooting link on the Adobe website and changed my active X controls but
I just cannot download Flash player. I am the administrator of my computer so
that cannotbe the issue either.

When I get to the Adobe Flash Player Download Centre - Windows, there is just
nowhere to click to proceed with the installation, no Install Now icon. Just
the instructions about installation, the red arrow that says about if the info
bar appears above the next page etc. etc. and the 4 steps of installation and
security warning thing.

How can I proceed with the installation from this point?

I greatly appreciate your help with my frustrating dilema.

Thanks.

Hi Mark Anthony,

What are your Security Internet options set to? If it is set to high you may
prevent the Flash Player installation.

You can check this by selecting Tools > Internet Options > Security.

In addition, here are Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash
Player:

1. First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
2. Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close
all running programs.
3. Open the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
4. Run the uninstaller
5. What files are left in this folder? C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
6. If there are files left, delete the Flash folder.
7. Install the Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
8. Test the Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/

Hi,
I was having the same problem, tried the above suggestions but it still didn't
work.
Then I tried something else that made it work again! Maybe this will work for
you too.

It turns out that something else caused my flash not to install properly.
Last weekend I relocated my D:\Users folder to F:\Users and did some registry
hack. After that, IE7 became incredibly slow; I wasn't able to print, and I
wasn't able to install flash. If and only if you're experiencing something of
the sort, this may work for you.

I tried to attack my print problem first. Apparently my
D:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\Low folder wasn't created (at least not
properly) See http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1357889&page=1. So I
did the following:
0) Uninstalled Adobe flash as the others have said (mine was a FlashUtil9c
version).
1) Closed all IE7 windows.
2) Manually created the D:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\Low folder (Me is
your user name)
3) Opened a command prompt with elevated administrator priviledges (run as
administrator)
4) Typed the command: icalcs D:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\Low
/setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low. If it works the prompt should tell you the
operation was successful.
5) Opened IE7 and tried to print (it worked for me).
6) Went to
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl
ash&promoid=BIOW/ and installed flash. It worked finally!!

I don't have another machine with Vista on it so I can't test it out. I hope
that the above can work with some of you who're still struggling. Good luck!

sungtakdh, you are a genius! I moved the temp folder some time ago and had
similar problems.
Now I reset the security settings of the temp folder to "Full Control" for
System and Me (my user account). That was it. Everything worked. :grin;

hi. it is me again with the same problem with the flash player. i've tried
many things, such as turning off my firewall, both normal and advanced.
following the instructions back again from installer. i asked my computer
teacher for help, but i believe that he really didn't understand my case. i
went on to google to look for a flash player tha was suitable for windows
vista, and there was one, but the problem is still remaining, the flash player
didn't download. and i even followed the instructions that helped the people
who have already installed their flash player. i seriously need some help. i
noticed that my "windows movie maker" wasn't working ever since the flash
player had uninstalled or dissappeared from my computer and i really need my
movie maker, this is why i am getting the most frustrated. if there is someone
who had the same issue as me or has a solution for my issue, please help me out.

thank you,

Oops, in step 4 of my post it should have been:
4) Typed the command: icacls D:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\Low
/setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low. If it works the prompt should tell you the
operation was successful.

Sorry for the typo.

By the way, I had to reinstall Vista and was able to get flash working
following the same steps. Note that in Step 2 if the Low folder existed,
remove it and recreated it before running icacls. Good luck!

Hi sKittye,

We have successfully used Microsoft?s SubInACL to fix Window System Registry
issues on Vista. Please find my personal email from here and I can help you
determine if this is the fix that you need.

SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like some of you I tried EVERYTHING several times... Randomly came across this
file "VistaCodecs_v441" (google it). Download and install it, THEN download and
install flash player.

After installing this file and then flash player, EVERYTHING seems to be
working great again.... FINALLY! AIM works, Windows media player finally works
right again and IE7 works again! Let me know if this works for you and if so
lets spread the word!

Well if you're so frustrated and you're reading this then maybe you had my
problem. I tried everything in this post and for weeks I tried using firefox
and no luck, likes to crash a lot.

I have a 6800 intel extreme with 8gb's of memory running vista 64-bit
ultimate. I'm a web designer so I like to test my detection system and tweak it
every now and then, like when CS3 came out. So I removed my flash player and
tried to roll back to another older version to test, BAD IDEA!!!

My internet explorer wouldn't work since at installing the flash player
plugin. A few of the above techniques would work but the player wouldn't load.
SO after all these posts I finally broke down and went to microsoft and paid my
$59.00 to get it solved. After 4 hours we did.

msconfig.exe in the search panel, click on it and on the services tab click to
hide all microsoft services. then deselect the other remaining services. on the
startup tab do the same with the services shown there. re-boot, install a
stand-alone flash player that is 9.0.28 version, this is crucial, seems like
none of the others worked. then go to adobe's site and install normally. seems
to work, you even get the confirmation screen and it doesn't keep asking you to
install. finally msconfig again and turn everthing on, re-boot return to adobe
and download again. then it will work fine.

A few of these steps seem a bit redundant but its what made my system work.

After following Darren J. McNally's post from April 24th I have managed to
install and test the Flash Player via the URL
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ and all looks OK on my Vista
Ultimate 32-bit version.

However when Vista's Program Compatibility runs (when I'm installing a product
with known compatibility issues) clicking the "Find Solution" button it then
complains as it still thinks that Flash isn't installed.

Does anyone know how the "Program Compatibility" is determining if Flash is
installed?
I'm assuming that something like a registry entry hasn't been set correctly or
something

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have exactly the same issue as 'Quiet Village' except that i am on Home Premium with a HP Pavillion PC and the problem only exists with YouTube audio:

Quiet Village's post - "I am also having problems with Flash player on Vista.

HOWEVER I have had a breakthrough of sorts....i downloaded the K-Lite Codec pack (http://www.codecguide.com) and enabled Flash Video through Windows Media Player Classic. Once the codecs are installed for the first time IE or Firefox comes up and there is sound in YouTube (as opposed to no sound and the volume bar being far left).

When i close down IE or Firefox and call up a new browser window the sound has gone again. The only way to bring it back is to reinstall the k-lite codec pack again.

Thorughout all of this Flash with sound is ok in Google Video and standard flash animations...just sound in YouTube is the problem.

Very frustrating because i have tried uninstalling flash and reinstalling with admin rights too. Hopefully I'm half way there but HELP please!

Yeah I tried what you did theopenworld, but there was no 'Everyone' option.

Instead I just double-clicked the 'FlashUtil9d' executable, and it
auto-patched in a 2 seconds and voila, flash works now!

But thanks though for making me look there! And if anyone is having this
problem and can't do the other steps, just try double clicking that exe file
first, it's a lot easier. Oh, and I have Vista Home Premium, maybe that's why
the OP's solution didn't work for me.

Wished I had read this earlier. it would have saved me a lot of headaches. I
fixed it by using the uninstall flashplayer and then rebooting then
reinstalling with as much items that were running off to ensure it took this
time. your way looks easier and faster. KMc

Ok, so some people are still having trouble using Flash in Windows Vista. I am
getting masses of mail about it, mostly to say a successful fix, but a few not.
So here goes.

Ok, next line of attack if things still aren?t working in IE:

Download and install Flash from the following link (this is a manual install
and not the usual Adobe Flash installation (but it is easy!)):
http://www.theopenworldtechnician.com/blogberry/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/insta
ll_flash_player.exe

Then try the original post I did back in February (at the beginning of this

Then OK your way out of the windows, close IE and then start it up and see what
happens.[/q]

I went into manage add ons and as soon as I disabled all of Norton and
Symantec the download and installation worked.

I tried all the fixes above on 64 bit Vista Home Premium. I can enter some
websites and use flash player fine. (YouTube, etc.) and then other sites,
including Adobe home page I still get the IE7 crash. I have checked multiple
websites for answers and still have yet to find a viable solution. Keep coming
up with ideas for us out here who need the help. Thanks.

I was having the same issues but I figured out the problem. I don't have a defree in IT but I build and fix PC's. I am also very good at troulbeshooting and I figured out why I couldn't get flash to work despite trying all of the Run as Administrator fixes. It just didn't work. Neither did uninstalling and reinstalling. Howevern, I did find something on the Adobe site that would temporarily cause flash to work on my Vista Ultimate PC. It would work until I rebooted, then back to the same thing again.

First: You will need to uninstall the Flash Player from yiour PC. You can use the flash uninstaller, or in Vista, uninstall it from Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Second: Go to the Microsoft Download Center and download SubInACL.
Install it to C:/Program Files and not C:/Windows as it will attempt to do.
Here's the link; http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en

Third: Use this link from Adobe and download the Zip file Reset Minimal. It also has these instuctions which you will find useful.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=fb1634cb&sliceId=1

Fourth: After opening reset_minimal using Winzip, Drag and drop it to C:/Program Files/Resource Kits/Tools. If you don't see Resource Kits in Program Files you didn't install "SubInACL" under Program Files. If you installed it to C:/Windows instead you may not see the folder Resource Kits. If you do see the Resource Kits folder, then SubInACL may not save the next time you reboot and you have to start all over again.
In the Resource Kits/Tools folder you should see SubInACL. Make sure that both SubInACL and reset_minimal are in the same folder. Upon doing so, click on reset_minimal. Command Prompt will execute the SubInACL tool. Do not use your PC until the Command Prompt is finished by indiacting, "Prees any key to continue".

Fifth: Install Flash Player using IE7 on Adobe's web site. If it says Internet Explorer has blocked it then close IE7, re-open IE7 and try again.
After you've installed Flash you should see it work for you...albrit only until your next reboot. However, these steps will cause it to work after a reboot.

Go to C:/Windows/System32/Macromed. Right click the folder and click on properties.
in the window click on the Security tab. (We're going to gain authorization to the entire folder) Under Groups or user names you'll see a list. If you don't see Everyone in there, click edit. Click Add and type "Everyone" in the box. Click OK to close.
Highlight "Everyone" and place a checkmark under Allow in the box below it.
Click OK to close out of the window.

go to C:/Program Files/Resource Kits and do the same as above.
This will cause Flash Player to work after you reboot and should be a permenant solution for you.
