iis ftp : FTP works from a command Window, but not from GUI

Hi,

The only way I can log onto my Windows Server 2003 (Workgroup) FTP is from a
command prompt. If I try to use IE or a third party FTP tool, I get errors
stating that the server has been reset. Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks!

It doesn't work locally either. I get the following error:

An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have
permission to access that folder.

Details:
200 Type set to A
227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,1,102,4,129).
426 Connection Closed; transfer aborted.

I am logged onto the server as the local Administrator and I can access the
directory structure via Windows Explorer and I am logging onto FTP with the
same account. Since FTP works from the command promt, I know it is not a
permissions issue.

Have you try IE locally in the machine ?
this should relate to the famous passive mode issue.

Obviously it has *something* to do with PASV Mode. I turned off passive mode
in Internet Explorer (and CuteFTP) and it works. So, I guess it had nothing
to do with Port Forwarding on my router since it did not work locally on the
server. Also, I ran the ADSUtil.vbs script and changed the port numbers to
5500-5700 and forwarded those ports. It still didn't work in PASV mode.

As I knew, port number over 5000 need to add the key value into the =
registry. Also, FTP client transfer mode table is provided to you.
=20
Unable to Connect from TCP Ports Above 5000 article =
