iis ftp : Passive Transfer problem with Browser Client to FTP Server?

Please help me fix this.
IIS 6 (Windows 2003 Standard Server)
Anytime I try to enter the
FTP server via Internet Explorer 6.0 I get this after
authenticating user name and password -
first "entering passive mode transfer"
then a "connection closed" all in a error dialog box
If I disable or uncheck the "Use passive ftp" selection in
the Internet Explorer settings (advanced tab)
and have the "Use FTP Folder view" enabled
in the Internet Explorer settings,
the browser / client works.

However, this doesn't help my users by having to uncheck
this setting then check it again after...
Also my Linux Users can not access
the the ftp server thru thier browsers "at all"

If a straight FTP client is used,
either thru a Windows CMD Window
or a Linux Terminal,
it works perfectly,
although in all text / command line mode.
Do I have to edit a line in the Windows 2003 registry?
I just want users to be able to get to my ftp via a
browser without any browser setting "disabling".
Thanks for any help.

You need to configure your firewall/router to allow passive FTP
transfers. As you have proved already yourself your FTP server is
fucntioning correctly - there is something in between it and your
clients which is causing this problem. The IIS FTP service is
fucntioning as normal.

Paul,
First thanks for your reply.
I have "Port Forward" both Ports 21 and 20
on my Nat Router.

What else do I need to do on the Router?

You have put in your reply:
"You need to configure your firewall/router
to allow passive FTP transfers."
What do you mean by that?

Should I open up, more of a port "range"?
If that is the case, what should the port range be?
Thank You Again,
Bernard

FTP running in two mode in active mode, you need
inbound 21 and outbound 20

passive is another story.. read
Information About the IIS File Transmission Protocol (FTP) Service

with W2kSP4 and W2k3, you can customize the port range, read again,
