Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have done everything by the
books. The IIS HELP page does not help. I have started the FTp service.
However, when I point to ftp://******* it does not go the ftp site. What

FTP is started. I have specified a virtual directory for the FTP site.
Oh by the way I posted twice, I did not think it went through. It took
46 minutes to show up on the newsgroup.

You're posting the same message three times over to the same group.
And not one of those messages contains enough detail for anyone to be
able to help you. That's what you're doing wrong.

Do you get any error message at all ? If so, would you care to share
it with us perhaps ? Is the FTP service definitely started ? Is there
an FTP site configured and is that site definitely started ? If there
is an FTP site configured and it is definitely started, then what
authentication mechanism is configured for the site ?

Getting an FTP site up and running with Windows XP is actually quite
simple. If you provide enough troubleshooting information then I'm
sure someone here will be able to help you.

OK, you still haven't really provided any meaningful details but try
this KB article anyway for starters :

Err Msg: 530 User <Username> Cannot Log In. Login Failed.

As Jeff suggested earlier, it would be a good idea to start with a
command-line FTP client. Internet Explorer is set up by default to display
"friendly" error messages, and while these are reassuring to regular users,
they don't go a whole long way towards troubleshooting. The command-line
FTP client, by contrast, will tell you more clearly what's going on.
