iis ftp : Cannot setup Isolated Users FTP site In SBS2003

Hi there.

I am having real trouble setting up isolated users ftp site in
SBS2003.

The standard FTP site works fine with anonymous or authenticated.

when I try and create the Isolated FTP site I cannot login and I
always get the event ID 13 in the event viewer saying that it could
not access the home directory.

If I create isolated users with anonymous access it works OK getting
into the anonymous area but people who are logging in cannot get their
home directory.

I must be typing / spelling the directory incorrectly can someone
verify what it should be. currently I have setup

D:\Users FTP\Account\LOGONACCOUNT

Example. Say I have a user John Smith who logs on as johns i have
created a folder

d:\Users FTP\Account\johns

Any Ideas?

It seems quite a few people have problems with isolated users in 2003
is there a simple (non microsoft !) guide ?

Gavin,

With IIS6 User Isolation mode FTP sites it is important that the
physical directory structure is configured correctly.

Under the FTP root directory you need to create a sub-directory called
LocalUser and then you need to create individual sub-directories
within LocalUser for your individual users' home folders.

For example, if I have a user called Bob then there has to be a
physical directory similar to this in order for it to work.

C:\Inetpub\ftproot\LocalUser\Bob

Wrong directory structure. Assuming you're not doing AD, you'd need:

\FTPRoot\LocalUser\UserName

In your case, if you made your FTP Root d:\Users FTP you'd have:

d:\Users FTP\LocalUser\johns

Don't know. I did fine with the Microsoft instructions. :)

Cheers Jeff and Paul..

BUT Im still having problems !!!

In Non AD Isolated FTP site I created the directories as mentioned
above but it still wont work. As a test to isolated any spelling
mistakes on my side I created a temporary user called g (short for
gavin). I then created a folder called g under the LocalUser folder.
Still no access to the ftp site and event 13 eroors in eventviewer.

I have also restarted the ftp service again but still no joy.

If I create the folder /LocalUser/Public and allow anonymous access I
get in fine.

It therefore can only be a problem with the logon name and the name of
the folder that should correspond to this event error13

Gavin,

When you try to connect what *exact* error message do you get in your
FTP client ? What is the full error you see in Event Viewer ? Have you
changed the NTFS permissions on the FTP directories in some way ?

Did you set it up as per these instructions ?

You need the correct NTFS permissions on the folder, full control for
user "g" would do it if you need to test, then tie down permissions as
you need to. Also post the full error message including event ID and
source, plus post the exact responses using the command line FTP
client.

Hi guys

Finally got it sorted.

I saw this

http://forums.devshed.com/archive/t-91708

I had to put create a folder in the ftp root called DOMAINNAME and
then subfolders called USERNAME and this worked fine.

Cheers for the help guys.
