iis ftp : Internet Explorer can not access FTP of IIS6.0 behind ISA

Microsoft

I have installed a W2k3 Domain and IIS6.0 on the DC. The ISA is used as
Firewall. On IIS I have set up a FTP Site with the isolated user Mode. When
I use command line FTP in interne and remote, no problem, when use FTP
client tool, everything works fine. Only if I access FTP from remote client
using Internet Explore, there is no access to FTO folder. I have checked the
log information of the FTP. It seems that the FTP Client from Internet
Explore makes firstly logon as anonymous (not allowed), then tries to logon
as specific user. This caused the difficulty to access to FTP through
Internet Explore. What can I do to correct this problem?

Thanks,
Wu

Wu,

You need to configure IE to work as an Active mode FTP client. Bernard
is right to say that IE will always try to log on anonymously first
but I don't think thats the issue here. Refer to this KB article for
instructions how to configure IE to work in active mode (which is the
same as for command line) :

How To Configure Internet Explorer to Use Both the FTP PORT Mode and
PASV Mode in Windows 2000

Thanks for your help. Do you mean the menu 'File' in IE? I don't find LOGIN
AS in IE menu. From the interne client the user can access to FTP through
Internet Explore. I have also configured an other IIS 5.0. It has no problem
to access using Internet Explore and Netscape from Interne or External.

I'm not sure what the problem is then. You originally said that IE
doesn't work but that the command prompt FTP client always does. The
only difference is that IE is a passive mode client by default and the
command prompt FTP client is an active mode client.

This is the default behavior of IE. It will try login as anonymous user
first. You can click on 'File' - login as....
or get a real Ftp client app.
