iis ftp : How to setup FTP clients

I read this erlier and
I did follow that, but I get error "500 Unrecognized
command" after typing myusername or anonymous
then ""loging failed""

any Idea?

Here is what I get no matter what I type at the User
prompt:

I get error "500 Unrecognized command, loging failed"

Open up a command-prompt window. Type "ftp -d ftp.example.com" (replace
'ftp.example.com' with whatever address you are connecting to. Hit return,
and then try to log on. Copy and paste from that command prompt window
into your newsreader, so that there are no mis-spellings or mistakes, so
that we can see which command is being rejected.

I'm using IIS5 on SBS2000 which is setup as Domain
Controller. even if I try to ftp localy iget the error 500

something like this:

H:\ftp mymchine
connected to mymachine.mydomain.com
220 mymachine.mydomain.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service,
Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Friday, 23 July 2004
14:04:04 -0400
Name (myachine.mydomain.com:hamm): hamm
----> USER hamm
500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command
Login failed
ftp>

Are you using IIS FTP ?
what's the banner msgs ?

Pls follow Alun's advise and paste the complete error msgs and response
here.

Errr.. this looks like SMTP services to me.
Check your ftp ip/port binding is it 21 ?

Do you change SMTP to listen on port 21 ?
