Hi.
I have ftp server running on Win2k3. When I upload file with name or
contain in it body russian character "Ñ" it lost a half of them. In other
word, new file with name "ÑÑÑÑ" will be named "ÑÑ". I use built in ftp
client in MSIE6.0
Have any suggestions?

The same result.
I think it isn't problem in ftp-client.
I neeed use russian simbols in file body.
On computers for ftp server and ftp-client I selected Russian locale as
default.

what about other client ftp application ?
and it's not recommended to use other charsets other than ASCII.

Is the IE under russian locale as well ?

Ok. here's my experience:
Server - W2k3 - IIS 6.0 English.
Client A - XP Pro - English (with Chinese Simplified MUI pack).
Client B - XP Pro - English

Client A
Ftp command prompt, do dir listing, listing no problem. but cant' download
file. Log file indicate file not found.
but some files are ok, can be listed and downloaded.

Client B
Only see ??? junk characters.

If using IE... Client A
same behavior as command prompt, but the problem files might be different

Client B (with IE language pack)
Able to see file name in Chinese Simplified, but can't get any file. either
timeout or page not found

------------------
for you case, I suspect has something to do with that. but in your case -
losing chars.
I don't read russian :) just wondering is the word total change or 3chars
become 2chars ?

Thanks Bernard for your help and investigation.
In Microsoft company didn't know about other languages except English. It's
sad, but it is true.
The most unpleasent fact, that one character lost without a trace. And such
text isn't good for reading.

Given the amount of effort that we have put into support for Unicode in our
products, I think you will agree that this is quite an unfair
generalisation.

The FTP server in IIS does not currently support characters outside of the
normal ASCII range. I would suggest that you make certain that your FTP
clients support RFC 2640's recommendation of UTF-8 support, because that
should allow you to upload and download non-English characters with the
current IIS FTP server, although it will not directly allow you to create a
file in Explorer with non-English characters and have those characters
display in the FTP clients.

No comment :) It's free anyway. Also I have seen users (in china newsgroups)
successfully doing this with W2k Chinese Simplified edition with 3rd party
sofware.

In most general conditions your products work well. But you must agree that
multilanguage support need development. I offer to close this theme.
Thanks for your advice.
