Problems with Passive mode logging into IIS 5.0 FTP site David Lewis

iis ftp: Got Win2000 DC running IIS
Got Linksys dsl/cable router
Web server is working properly
Locally on DC using IE to log onto FTP site give error
Make sure you have permission to access that folder
....
Entering Passive Mode.......
Connection closed, transfer aborted.

Using FlashFXP remotely with passive mode turned off works just fine
Using Total Commander remotely works just fine.
Using IE remotely does not work.

This is passive mode issue, so either configure the router to allow passive
port range or use IE in active mode.

Mode in Windows 2000

If I Disable Folder View for FTP sites in IE I cannot even connect to the site.
It was already set to enable folder view.

when you say to configure my router to allow passive port range, I already that I thought.
I edited the registry to use port range 5100 to 5150. I port forwarded those ports to the internal ip of the ftp
server.

Again programs like total commander and flashfxp work, but IE does not.

When unchecked enable folder view, did you also check 'Use FTP option' ?

since you had tested with other ftp client app. the problem now is on IE
site.
active mode is working, but not passive mode. pls verify the above setting,
try restart IE after configured such settings. and as usual. IE was not
meant to be a 'decent' ftp client, so if possible, you should get other
alternative.

turned off use passive ftp in IE options. Didn't know it was there.
Yes I could use real client apps, but that is not always an option.
I got very dumb users / clients that don't even know what an ftp site is.
So I just tell them its like a web site except to transfer files. Click on <link>
and upload or download your files. Most get it and can use it without further
explanation except AOL users. I still have one sub consultant that is on AOL
and I have to send him CD's because he cannot access our FTP site.

From your discussions in the other thread. it sounds like the issue is at
networking layer. meaning the NAT is unable to handle the request properly.

what are the default binding port ? is it 21?
other ftp client can use passive mode but not IE ?

In my ftp client I turned off passive mode. So passive mode is not working properly
I am port forwarding ports 20,21 & 5100 to 5150 to the windows 2000 pdc

Ok, test it locally first (at the server), - passive mode work ?

then try remote host - use cuteftp or etc client to test passive mode, work
?
if not, what's the error. can you login ? can you do dir listing ?

then try IE - error behavior? ftp log file ?

Thankx for your help on this issue
The ftp access to my main office is just fine, so at this time I am going to quit messing with this.
The ftp access to my remote office only works in port mode. Since I am the only one using it
I am going to stop messing with it.
