iis ftp : 550 when connecting

I have an FTP site set up to connect to a network share for the purposes of
downloading only, no uploads. The site is set up as anonymous only, and the
home directory is a network share and connects to the network with a
specific account only for this FTP access.

If I put ftp://<site> into a browser, I get a 550 error. It wont let me see
anything.

The FTP account has Full Control over the share permissions. It has List,
Read, Read and Execute NTFS permissions on the drive, the share folder and
all folders and objects below.

Why can I not see this folder? I've gone over everything and cant find a
permissions problem anywhere that shouldn't at least let me see the
directory. I would greatly appreciate any insite into this...

Let's test it with ftp.exe first.
Can you login ? and navigate to the folder?
e.g. ftp.exe yourftpserverip

In order to get minimum functionality to the site, I have directed the main
site to connect to the local server. This works when using IE or WSFTP. I
have created a virtual directory set up in the same way as the original site
(connecting to the network share) which still has the problem described
below. It looks like this:

-FTP Sites
myftpsite (main site, works with IE)

When I use the command line, I can connect to the server (get a response),
but none of the usernames and passwords work. Even the domain admin and
local accounts that the main site is set up with. It gives "530 user cannot
log in".

Thanks,
Charlie

I have just found the problem. The FTP client account had Log on Locally
access to the remote server, but not the actual FTP server. Once I gave the
account this right, I can connect to the network share and the site behaves
normally.

Thank you for the reply Bernard.

That's why ftp.exe give you more clue or info for further troubleshooting :)
