iis ftp: programmatic to ftp virtual directories

when i connect to an ftp server and i only have access to a few of the ftp
virtual directories, do i just change directory to them after connecting and
having credentials authorized? is there some special protocol for changing
directories to authorized virtiual directories?

Once you connected to ftp, you will 'speak' in ftp protocol.
E.g. you can navigate folder, but doing a 'change directory' command. e.g.
'cd myvirdirectory'
You authenticated when you logging, there's no special protocol when u in
ftp space
