IIS 6, SBS 03, specific question?
I want to set up the following is IIS 6 on SBS 2003 and want to know if it is even possible? Default Ftp site, port 21, anonymous access vdir # 1, port 21, one user login access only vdir # 2, port 21, another seperate user login access only vdir # 3, etc......and so on... Only have one ip avail on incoming T1 which is static of course. I've already read the entire IIS 6 documentation, and nothing specifies this specific setup.
Yes, it does not say anything about what I was asking though. I want my vdirs to not all be sub-directories of the parent ftp. ....and I want the parent ftp to remain anonymous access. Sure, on a few MS articles it says to map your vdirs to a sub-directory of a parent site..... Parent ftp c:\inetpub\ftproot vdir c:\inetpub\ftproot\site1 I want to try to avoid having all my ftp's in one parent folder. In reference to your last msg, you say that I can have my parent ftp site still anonymous.....how?, when you need to uncheck "allow anonymous access" to have a user/pw prompt come up on your virtual directory sites? Thanks in advance for any help at all [quoted text, click to view] "Jason Brown [MSFT]" <i-brjaso@online.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:u49TJWcLFHA.544@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > Sorry, I don't follow the second bit there. you don't want your virtual > directories to be subdirectories? Also, I have also tried to create other ftp sites several times on different ports by opening up the ports on my Watchguard Firebox X50. No matter what ports (fwd/return) I use, nothing works for some reason. Is there any way to tell exactly what the hidden port number is when setting up another ftp site? i.e. std ftp uses 21 send, 20 receive, but you only can set 21 and 20 is hidden. How do I find the hidden if you are creating a non-ms recommended ftp? Sorry, I don't follow the second bit there. you don't want your virtual directories to be subdirectories? Can you explain that? the top level folder can still be anonymous (not necessarily a good idea all the time though. subfolders can then be locked with NTFS ACLs, as explained in the articles. I don't get the second sentence though at all. -- Jason Brown Microsoft GTSC, IIS This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. One port down from the one you specify. 21 and 20. 1021 and 1020. Etc. Then don't put them there. :) Virtual folders can point anywhere. You could have: Vdir1: c:\inetpub\ftproot\user1 Vdir2: c:\user2 Vdir3: c:\users\user3 Whatever you wish. you can edit the properties of individual virtual directories, and those virtual directories can point to any location on disk. Hence your parent can be anonymous while subfolders aren't, without too much hassle, and you don't have to have them pointing at a physical subfolder of the physical parent - though they will of course maintain the parent/child relationship when viewed over FTP. -- Jason Brown Microsoft GTSC, IIS This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
