Unable to view contents using IE (only for non-admin users) Justin
3/30/2005 6:46:56 PM
iis ftp:

IIS6 running behind ISA 2000. Anonymous access disabled. Able to
access/browse FTP site from command line. Able to do so using third party
ftp tools. But unable to browse using IE. It prompts for login, but not
showing the contents. I have enabled both PASV mode and folder view in IE,
Internet tools, Advanced.

When I use IE, if I give administrator as username then directory contents
are viewed. I don't think there is problem in NTFS permission.

What else could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

J Justin

when you enable ftp folder view, IE will act as the active ftp clients.
what if you enter the path directly at the url address bar ?
e.g. ftp://yourserver.com/ftppath/

ftp log clean ?

Bernard,
It is not working even if I give path in addressbar (only for non-admin
users).
I tried to create another virtual directory for another (nonadmin) user, but
no progress.
FTP Logfile is enabled with default settings. I don't find any error in it.

TIA

Bernard,
Thankyou for your continued support. I forgot to tell u one more thing. When
non-admin user login into ftp site... after user authentication... user name
is shown as anonymous in IE status bar.

Virtual directory is hidden by design. are you saying admin users can see
the folder listing ?
You need to 'blindly' enter or 'cd xxx' to the path. it will not display in
the dir listing.
the workaround is
FTP Virtual Directory Is Not Displayed in Directory Listing

Good morning Bernard..
ftp from command prompt works perfectly (including dir listing, get, put)
for any user.

Since I had a doubt in my Win2000 pro machine (IE6SP1), I tried to login
from another XP machine, in which IE is able to login for any user.
Sorry to bother you this much... What could be wrong in my win2000 machine?

this can't be true... now pls try login using ftp.exe.
can both admin and non-admin users login via ftp.exe ?
can users do a dir listing..... ? after this then test the ftp via IE.

Mmm.. in this case, then it is IE related (client side) rather than IIS FTP
server.
Just check the IE settings of both machine.... I can't think of any settings
except the 'enable ftp folder view' and 'passive ftp'. After IE prompt you
and you enter the user credential, it should logged in as the user rather
than guest account, and does it happen to any account that you try to login
?
