iis ftp:
Ive just setup the XP Pro FTP server in the IIS Administrative Tools. So far, I can get a clean 'Anonymous' logon. But I want to have a password logon. Ive played with all the configurations Im aware of but it either doesnt accept the designated password, or it requires Anonymous logon. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Have you used the command line FTP client to check the return codes?

Go to a command prompt and type FTP and hit Enter. At the FTP> prompt type a question mark for commands. Basically FTP [Space] System_IP, then your login name and password. The return code and message on the following line will help diagnose the login issue.

Hi Jeff, thank for your help. I did as mentioned. But when I typed: FTP [Space] System_IP[Space]logingname[Space]password I got the message: Invalid Command. Did I miss something?
If you're looking at an "ftp>" prompt, the command to connect to a remote site is "open <sitename> [<port>]", if you're looking at a "c:>" prompt (or whatever path you may have), the command is "ftp <sitename>". Just FTP Systemname, then [Enter]. The system will ask for login and password, enter those when prompted.

I can get it that far, but it wont allow the login. Ive tried various settings, but I dont think Im using the right configuration. I can set it for ' iis' to handle the password, but then there's no login box, it simply goes direct. Im trying to get the login box to work, so far it hasn't.
If you need login prompt, make sure you disable anonymous access, some ftp client auto login anonymously. -- Regards, Bernard Cheah http://www.tryiis.com/ http://support.microsoft.com/ http://www.msmvps.com/bernard/ [quoted text, click to view] "Karl Winters" <Almanaticus@netscape.net> wrote in message news:sH6ce.629$HL2.509@newsread3.news.pas.earthlink.net... > > "Jeff Cochran" <jeff.nospam@zina.com> wrote in message > news:426fde0f.599639916@msnews.microsoft.com... >> On Tue, 26 Apr 2005 12:50:02 GMT, "Karl Winters" >> <Almanaticus@netscape.net> wrote: >> >> Just FTP Systemname, then [Enter].
