FTP and Client Passive

I am trying to get a grip on Windows 2000, firewalls and ftp. My
understanding is the only way ftp will work is the client needs to set their
ftp program (or IE) to passive. This would not make for a very good
application. I also don't see an option for other browsers like Firefox.

Hi,
I installed SP1 for 2003 web edition and external users now cant connect to
the ftp service. Internally its ok (i.e from LAN on diagram below). I can
connect ok. Seems to indicate routing problem.
When connecting from external sources the router is reporting incoming

I am running windows 2000 server. Everytime I try to access my ftp server
from a remote location I recieve the fallowing error messaage:
"An error occured opening that folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have
the permissions to access that folder.

I'm working on setting up an FTP server and using Active Directory users.
When I ftp into the server I have to append the netbios name of the domain
to work.. Such as instead of being able to use just 'userid', I'm required

authentication.
But, everytime I access and the IE ask for user and password, I put the

Hi,
I'm having problem with IIS 5.0 on W2K Srv.
Files and folders containing Turkish chars are not being
displayed on the browser.
Regional setings of the server are correct.
Any clue?

Hi Ppl,
I installed the FTP components on to my windows server
2003 but I am not able to run the default FTP site. When
ever I try to restart the service I get an error "The
specified metadata was not found".
I also tried executing "cscript adsutil.vbs enum " script

I wanted to set up another FTP server (which is authenticating from my AD
domain), and have it so you wouldn't have to enter the domain before the
username...i.e. domain/username. Just the username and password.
