Im having the same (or very similar) problem. I set up XP IIS FTP server last night. I, too, am behind a firewall and a router, and have set the ports appropriately. Yet I keep getting the logon box that will not allow access to either the name or the anonymous account. I can see by the status bar at the bottom of the browser that the site has been connected with, it's just waiting for the logon box to accept the password. But that friggin' box just keep popping back up and doesnt open on through. What else is there to do?

Yes, both 20 & 21 are open. I can use WS_FTP, but not IE6. Maybe someone out there knows something else to do and can help us.

Have you set IE for passive mode?
I have my ftp site set up, last night when I used IE to login to the site from home I kept getting access denied, but using ws_ftp client I could access just fine, create and delete directories without any problem. The FTP server is behind a firewall, but I have port 21 forwarding to the client. Is there anything else I need to do on the firwall, or is this something I should do to IE?
I vaguely remember reading someplace that you have to open up port 20 when using IE as the FTP client, but have also heard that only 21 is needed so that's all I currently have open. Have you tried using other clients? Hi Nathan, There are two items in IE options that you should check.=20 Go to Tools|Internet Options...|Advanced=20 a.. Check the line "Enable folder view for FTP sites."=20 b.. Uncheck the line "Use Passive FTP(for firewall and DSL modem = compatibility)"=20 You should, then, be able to access your FTP site via IE. hth Ted [quoted text, click to view] >> I have my ftp site set up, last night when I used IE to login to the >> site from home I kept getting access denied, but using ws_ftp client >> I could access just fine, create and delete directories without any >> problem. Ummm. how to do that?
I replied to Nathan in this thread, but I will reply again: There are two items in IE options that you should check. Go to Tools | Internet Options... | Advanced a.. Check the line "Enable folder view for FTP sites." b.. Uncheck the line "Use Passive FTP(for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)" You should, then, be able to access your FTP site via IE. hth Ted [quoted text, click to view] >> "Jeff Cochran" <jeff.nospam@zina.com> wrote in message >> news:42979359.350990717@msnews.microsoft.com... >>> On Fri, 20 May 2005 08:56:46 -0400, "Nathan Weldon" >>> <nweldon@usaarchitects.com> wrote: >>> >>>> I have my ftp site set up, last night when I used IE to login to >>>> the site from home I kept getting access denied, but using ws_ftp >>>> client I could access just fine, create and delete directories >>>> without any problem. a.. Check the line "Enable folder view for FTP sites." the above will force IE to be active mode client, regardless of 'Use Passive Ftp' status. -- Regards, Bernard Cheah http://www.microsoft.com/iis/ http://www.iiswebcastseries.com/ http://www.msmvps.com/bernard/ [quoted text, click to view] "Ted Brewer" <theob2@nospam.wi.rr.com> wrote in message news:uYDMg$lXFHA.3716@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... >I replied to Nathan in this thread, but I will reply again: > > There are two items in IE options that you should check. > Go to Tools | Internet Options... | Advanced > a..
