IIS 6 FTP problem
Hello, we are running Web Server Edition and we have troubles with FTP. When files above approx. 5 MB are uploaded to server, files are successfuly uploaded, but no confirmation come from server, so communication failed without any log event or error message. Thank you very much for any advice. Miroslav

Hello Jeff, yes, I am sure upload was completed successfully. I also found in system event log information about over time of this connection. Time is set to 300 sec. Pardon me, my english is bad. I didn't understand your question: "if you upload the file at the server itself. same error ?" What exactly does idle timeout mean? Idle timeout is if the connection is ide, no data transferring across it. [quoted text, click to view] >Does it happen if upload take time more than limit?
Not unless the transmission has already stopped. [quoted text, click to view] >Or it shoud only happen if no byte is moved within time limit?
That's it. But you log still didn't show the file transfer completed. Was the log from the same time as the transfer that you say completed?
and for "if you upload the file at the server itself. same error ?" I meant if you try to do the file uploading @ the server itself. E.g. go to the ftp server, and try upload the file at that local machine. -- Regards, Bernard Cheah http://www.microsoft.com/iis/ http://www.iiswebcastseries.com/ http://www.msmvps.com/bernard/ [quoted text, click to view] "Jeff Cochran" <jeff.nospam@zina.com> wrote in message news:429f44f1.104577296@msnews.microsoft.com... > On Wed, 25 May 2005 11:51:10 +0200, "Miroslav Knápek" <knapek@mmsw.cz> > wrote: > >>Pardon me, my english is bad. >>I didn't understand your question: "if you upload the file at the server >>itself. same error ?" >> >>What exactly does idle timeout mean? > > Idle timeout is if the connection is ide, no data transferring across > it. > >>Does it happen if upload take time more than limit? > > Not unless the transmission has already stopped. > >>Or it shoud only happen if no byte is moved within time limit? > > That's it. > > But you log still didn't show the file transfer completed. Hello Jeff, thank you for your help. Yes - event log has message in same time as IIS has. (IIS log uses local time shift 2 hours.) Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSFTPSVC Event Category: None Event ID: 10 Date: 24.5.2005 Time: 13:29:27 User: N/A Computer: MMSWSERVER Description: User knapek at host 82.99.129.29 has timed-out after 300 seconds of inactivity. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Now I think I know that my problem is - no upload ended successfully confirmation comes. Mm.. in this case. it could be network connection issue. I am not quite sure, because a lot of my customers from very different locations complain to this problem. There is only standard Windows 2003 SP1 Firewal on our server. It's ok. because 21 is the control port while 20 is the data channel. this apply to active mode. I am not quite sure if all customers have same problem, but I think so. Port 20 is not allowed in Windows Firewall even FTP is allowed. Now I turned off Firewall completely and we will see. If it is the problem, I will allow this port. I let you know my result. Thank you very much for your advices! Turning off the Firewall will not help this. I have done so & I am still getting hundreds of errors (hosted FTP except that my server will randomly reboot and often hangs completely. I have heavy traffic on my server and FTP files over 100MB in size. If anyone has ANY info, I would certainly appreciate it Thanks, S -- SkinlessFran ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SkinlessFrank's Profile: http://www.highdots.com/forums/m103 View this thread: http://www.highdots.com/forums/t128479
Clarification - I am getting a message like the following: " User IEUser@ at host xxx.xx.x.xxx has timed-out after 120 seconds o inactivity. " Type: Warning Source: MSFTPSVC Category: None Event ID: 10 User: N/A this is the only indication of a problem before my server crashes/hand and needs physical "hard" re-boot :mad -- SkinlessFran ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SkinlessFrank's Profile: http://www.highdots.com/forums/m103 View this thread: http://www.highdots.com/forums/t128479
Here is MY problem: Server running ONLY FTP services (web, et al. are off). The syste mysteriously reboots occasionally. As more traffic hits the system reboots become more frequent. Finally the system hangs fully (assum blue screen), it is a dedicated hosted server and I have to remotel reboot via a web app (1and1.com) or call their "support" team t physically push the off/on button. Just last week the server die completely and I had to re-deploy on a new hosted server. The ONLY thing in the Event logs were the "Event ID: 10" that I liste in my previous post. I provided DUMP files to Microsoft with their crash analsys program but they said it was "probably" hardware. This server (below) is blade server IIRC, and my old one was similar, except it only had 512M RAM and was a slower centrino processor Server specs: OS Name Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Web Edition Version 5.2.3790 Service Pack 1 Build 3790 Other OS Description Not Available OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name <removed> System Manufacturer VIA TECHNOLOGIES, INC. Hi there, Typically, these problem of rebooting, hanging up more often because of Power Supply, Memory, CPU Overheated. You might look into that!! Well, my knowledge per event id 10 for msftpsvc is when the user idle for more that configured time, he/she will get disconnected and IIS will write an event log entry for that. But this indicating that the hang/crash is cause by ftp service. I would suggest you fully patch the machine, run virus scanner and check event log again. -- Regards, Bernard Cheah http://www.iis-resources.com/ http://www.iiswebcastseries.com/ http://www.msmvps.com/bernard/ [quoted text, click to view] "SkinlessFrank" <SkinlessFrank.1wwg5z@no-mx.forums.yourdomain.com.au> wrote in message news:SkinlessFrank.1wwg5z@no-mx.forums.yourdomain.com.au... > > Here is MY problem: > > Server running ONLY FTP services (web, et al. are off). Hi, We have NEC servers and if we patch them, we cannot get any support anymore because its not comform by NEC. Also, they servers and system software is only built on the type of hardware (thats what they say). So my question is : is there allready a separate patch (with KB number will be great to know) that can solve this problem? regards, Patrickvs From http://www.developmentnow.com/g/90_2005_5_0_0_526383/IIS-6-FTP-problem.htm Posted via DevelopmentNow.com Groups
