You may not have provided the username/password in the client. You
may be using IE, which isn't a very good FTP client. You may not even
be reaching the FTP server due to a firewall or router in the middle.
look at the FTP logs on the server to see what attempt was made at
connection. Use the command line FTP client so you can see the
response codes.

Hi

I think I have misunderstood sth about anonymous logons to FTP

Not wanting to use this option which sounds insecure, I created a special
user and gave him access to the FTP default folder with a password.

When I use this account to log on to my FTP server from my own computer
(test), a Window comes up and asks for the password which I type in.

The special account is then logged on.

But when I tried this from a friends computer, the type in name and password
window didn't come up.

Instead, I got an access denied window.

What is wrong please?

Hi

What is the 'command line FTP client ' and how do I read the response codes?

Thanks

At a command prompt, type FTP and hit enter. Type a question mark and
hit enter. For full help, click on Start -> Help and type in "FTP".
