My FTP site is running fine on my LAN. I have my router setup to forward all
FTP requests to my FTP server. When accessing the router's internet address
from the net, I'm prompted for my passward to access the FTP site. It's my
understanding that this infomation is not secured. How do I go about
securing it? I don't want to use a VPN. I'd like to to use my 2003 Active

I think it depends what kind of VPN solution you deploying, there should be
some that able to work with Windows user db. Anyway is to via IPSec, anyway
all these are network related and not at IIS ftp level, refer the bottom

You get a choice of VPN or third party FTP server. Microsoft's FTP
doesn't do secure FTP at this time.

I have been researching this because I'm building an add-on to IISLogs to be
able to move log files via a secure FTP connection. Some of the products I
tried and worth while evaluating are listed below.

Yes, that's the alternative some users are using. As webdav is an http
extension protocol that you can put SSL with it.

I use WFTPD Pro for this:

http://www.wftpd.com/

It's by no means the only one out there, but when we were mandated to
provide secure FTP for some transfers we looked at FTP Serv-U and
WSFTP Server, and WFTPD Pro won out. I think most have trial
versions you can test.

I liked Ipswitch's WSFTP Server, but it was $500 or so for our needs.
I got burned with FTP Serv-U when I bought a "lifetime" license with
free upgrades, they went to a tiered licensing and our cost would have
risen dramatically. WFTPD Pro fit within the budget and worked
perfectly.

Great link thanks for passing it along. Any other products you know of?
