FTP though NAT router? Bill

iis ftp: Win2k Server. IIS5. I am attempting to set up a private FTP server (no
anonymous access), a subject about which I know absolutely nothing.

I have set up a user on the server and can connect accross the local
network. My internet connection is through a Linksys cable DSL router.
I have forwarded port 21 through the router to the Win2k server's IP
address. When I try to connect across the Internet I cannot.

My FTP client, Core FTP Lite, shows:

Connect socket#948 to 999.999.999.999, port 1186...
timeout
425 Can't open data connection.

What is port 1186? What do I have to do to make an FTP connection
through the router?

Remember, I need the answer for dummies.<g> Thanks.

Don't know anything about CoreFTP Lite, but sounds like a typical
issue between passive and active connections. Find that setting in
your FTP client and change it.
