iis ftp:
for win 2k adv serv and iis 5.0
plain vanilla ish install
created ftp site, home directory is a folder i created under the default
'inetpub' folder from the iis install
created a user just for ftp
got the msg 'windows cannot access this folder....make sure you have
permission to access folder'
when i check the site status and log file, the user had 'session' going and
t here was 'pass 530' messages in the log file
so
i changed the folder permissions, took away 'everyone' and added the ftp
user with read, and write
now when i try to access i get message about invalid username password

so i'm not making progress here but going backwards
any body have experience with this??? i'm kinda lost here
thanks

Take a look at this kb
Error message in IIS: "530 User <Username> cannot log in. Login failed."
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=200475

check user's permissions and rights. after that try ftp.exe to login agian.
if failed. post the output here.

hi back and thanks for the reply
making progress here
so i made the 200475 changes and i can connect now both in ie and ftp
however, i'm not getting any contents /files listed on ie or ftp
in ftp.exe after logging in, if i do a 'dir' or 'ls' command to see
contents
i get 2 messages
500 invalid port command
150 opening ascii mode data connection for file list
and it just hangs there

fyi, i'm not using port 21
also i read the prior post from andrew and my ie option for 'enable folder
view ' was selected and pasv was not
