iis ftp : FTP Server Access Denied

Hi,

I have configured FTP on a SBS 2003 server. I can access the ftp server
using either anonymous login or domain\username.

Once i've opened the ftp server I can view the contents of the server but I
keep getting 550 Access denied whenever I try to write something to the ftp
server.

In IIS, Default FTP Server, Home Directory I have ticked Read and Write
permissions. The ftproot has ntfs permissions of everyone - full control.

Can you tell me what is stopping me having write access to the ftp server?

Thanks,
Joe

First, is the user you logged in as in the Everyone group? You did
realize it's a group, and doesn't mean "every account on the server"
right?

Second, you do realize that those permissions allow way too much
access, basically opening your server to abuse, correct?

If you're using isolation, then you may not be in the ftproot folder.
You also have ISA as a possible issue in SBS. Check your NTFS
permissions again, and only allow the accounts you want to have
access.

Joe!

I'm having this same exact issue on two SBS2K3 Premium installations. I am
unsure of whether it is an ISA issue or IIS. On the server itself, I can
write, delete, read, etc. Any other workstation on the network I can read
but NOT write - this is true with both anonymous and specific AD user
granted permissions (there are no denies specified).

I am NOT publishing FTP to the public. FTP is used for electronic scanning
application on the LAN only. The only authentication (if any) that is
passed across network will be user level.

Please let me know if you've found anything.

Thanks,
Scott

In that case, look at the ISA publish rules, does it allow 'modify' or
'write'.
check the log file.

Thanks, Bernard. That's exactly what it was. Though I unchecked "Read
Only" on two or three access rules in ISA, there was still one which had the
FTP properties set to "Read Only". I unchecked it, applied the settings,
and it all works.

Thanks!
Scott
