Permission question/issue Alan

iis ftp: We have a corporate FTP site set up with multiple folders that have different
levels of permissions depending upon which security group a user is in. We
are experiencing a strange issue. A user logs in (using IE), and goes to a
folder that they have full permission on and tries to openany Excel
spreadsheet he is prompted for his username & password again, but if he tries
to open any other file type (ex Word), it opens fine. When he tries the
Excel file and is prompted for his username if he clicks cancel without
entering the info the file will open. Why would they be prompted?

Thanks for any help,
Alan

It doesn't happen if I save the file local. It also doesn't happen if I use
a different web browser such as Firefox or I use an FTP program to get the
file. It only happens if I try and open the file using Internet Explorer
from the FTP site.

All our machines are running IE 6 (sp1 &sp2) and it happens on all machines I
have tried so far. I create a simple test spreadsheet and I get the same
results. Unfortunatley I can't give you a test URL since you would need an
account to login to the FTP site with, no anonymous users allowed.

Any ideas?
