Folder modification date not changing Matthew Speed

iis ftp: Environment: W2K3 Server Standard Edition

My company has client upload files to an ftp server. To find new
files, we simply order the directories by "Modified" in descending
order. We have a couple of clients who, when they upload a file, do
not get the modified timestamp on their folder updated.

A couple of details:

1. the clients are not creating their directories. When they log in
they are dropped into their personal directory and they simply upload
a file to that location.

2. the file they upload shows the date and time of their upload, a
time different than the timestamp on the folder itself.

I can't repro the symptom, the folder reflect the modified date once files
being uploaded.
how do you order the modified folders? windows explorer ? command prompt?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Internally, no matter which
client computer on the LAN looks at that folder it will see that the
folder date doesn't match the file date. We assume (but do not know)
that the external client sending the data is sending from the same
machine every time. We see the same source IP address in the logs but
that means nothing in the world of NAT.

No, what I'm asking is how 'client machine' uploads does not change the
folder modification date.
I can't repro using ftp.exe to upload. How do you connect and upload ?
built-in program or ftp client?
can you repro with ftp.exe ?

Got it. This isn't data I upload; this is uploaded by external
clients. I cannot personally reproduce this. I will contact them and
find out how the two or three clients for whom this happens are doing
it. The good news is that it is always the same clients so this is

Yupe, that's what we are trying to narrow down the problem scope since we
can not repro ourselves.
