iis ftp : iis 6.0 ftp and tif files

We use iis 6.0 (on Windows 2003 Server) for ftp. We have placed some .tif
files on our site and when users attempt to OPEN the files, they get an
error message "Unable to open file 'c:\documents and
settings...\2E-1[1].tif'. Check file name and permissions".

The users are using IE 6 to access the ftp site. If they "copy to folder"
instead of OPEN the file, then they are able to open the file locally. Other
file types do not exhibit this behavior. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Interesting ? you have the url for testing?
it looks like client side error as it is saying "c:\documents.......... "

what's the status code of that ftp request? anonymous access?

The reference there is to a file already in Temporary Internet Files (i.e.
successfully downloaded by Internet Explorer in the client), awaiting
copying to its final destination. This is not an IIS problem. It is a
problem with the client. Probably it is the client's anti-virus locking the
TIF file while it is scanned. Maybe you only notice it with TIFs because
your particular TIFs are so much larger than other file types.

It is a client-side error but it only happens with TIF files. PDF files on
the same ftp site work fine.

The ftp site requires a username/password.

I have confirmed this happens on many client machines. I don't know how to
find the ftp status code.

Robin, I agree it looks like a client-side error. I have confirmed it
happens on lots of different clients with various anti-virus programs. I
don't think it is the file size issue since I tried PDFs that were larger
(considerably) than the TIF.
