iis ftp:
I have an interesting problem.

We have an FTP Service (not anonymous) where our clients upload and download
files to 2 virtual directories (both are mapped to a file server - Windows
2003 using NTFS).

We have an intermittant problem where our clients will timeout when their
client software does an FTP GET. The raw command that causes the timeout is a
STAT <filename> that is issued by the 3rd party FTP control. We have used a
packet sniffer and have captured the raw commands to see what has been going
on. The timeout occurs after 60 seconds of waiting for the STAT to complete.
Our FTP timeout is set to 120 seconds. All clients use Passive mode.

The clients never fail with a PUT. In the virual folder used for uploads,
each client has their own subfolder. The virual folder used for downloads
does not.

The dowload folder could contain hundreds of thousands of files. We could
have as many as 3 to 4 hundred clients getting files at once.

Perhaps this is a file system or networking error - not FTP?

Any thoughts?

Experinced that as well in the past.
but only during peak hours for client with slow link.
so it is likely networking related.
