iis ftp : Why do certain image files cause FTP to crash?

I am uploading my website to a new server. I have discovered that a
few files, both .gif and .jpg, cause the ftp to crash and my ISP shuts
down and reboots. They are very small files. Any theories, workarounds?

A friend of mine made a useful observation, that being that I was
using the AOL FTP software, and AOL sucks. He advised me to download a
free copy of FileZilla. I did, and it sent the problematic files
without a hitch.
