directory list timeout... too many files? -- iis ftp

We are running iis 6 on ws2003. We have a few folders that contain 150-200
files each. When we log on and try to list these folders 9 times out of 10
it will time out. If I split the files up into different folders so that
each folder contains 50ish files then listing works fine. Is there some file
limit we are working against?

Don't thinks is the number of files, but connection between client and
server.
I got this error if connecting to a remote site with >200 files with slow
connection.
but locally in the same LAN, no error.
