iis ftp:
I'm running an ftp site on my Longhorn server using IIS6. I want to set it
up with the new FTP plug-in for IIS7, but the issue is that when I create the
website, it's disabled. I imagine it's becaue it can't start an FTP service
on both IIS6 and IIS7, but I can't figure out how to read the error IIS7 FTP
is generating, or how to uninstall IIS6 FTP service.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Typically I would suggest you uninstall the IIS 6 FTP from w2k8, I don't
have my w2k8 now, check if you can uninstall the component from role
manager, or add / remote feature in server manager.

then download the latest ftp component from iis.net. I only tested it on
June CTP, havent got my RC0 yet. but it should works. and if you can't
uninstall IIS 6 ftp, then just stop the ftp site. the new ftp service runs
under svchost.exe not inetinfo.exe

Ok, I tried removing FTP6, I uninstalled FTP7 and reinstalled it, and I'm
still getting this issue.
I'll research this some more and let you know if I find anything.

If you running on RC0, get the lastest IIS 7 ftp build at iis.net

I'm running the IIS7 RC0 version and it works nice with SSL enabled.

What's RC0 and how do I know if I'm running it? Also I just downloaded FTP7
a few days ago, would they have released a new build that recently?
The frustrating part about this is I can't seem to find a generated error.
I checked the event logs and couldn't find any corresponding event.

Thanks Steve,

Well, I upgraded our server from 2008 Beta to RC0. The ftp site installs
fine, and runs fine on the localhost, but I can't access it from another
computer. I can ping the host from other computers, I can even go to the
http site on this server. Basically, I can telnet port 80 but not port 21.

I figured it was a firewall issue so I investigated further. I noticed that
in Server 2008 the Firewall service stays on (as opposed to Server 2003). I
tried poking a hole to allow all connections on port 21 but that didn't help.
Is there something I'm missing?
