iis ftp : Setting Up FTP Sites in Vista (for Newbies!)

#1: I am running Vista Ultimate 32. I would like to set up an FTP site on my
machine so that my family can connect to it (securely with a password) and
get the files I put there for them. I see that there is an FTP section under
IIS that I can "turn on" in Control Panel. Can someone point me to a link
that tells me "step-by-step" how to set this up? I looked in Windows help and
it just pointed me to a TechNet site that talks about IIS 7 in Windows 2008
Server (Longhorn). Does Vista Ultimate use this same version of IIS 7? The
instructions didn't look the same.

#2: Does anyone know any good reference books for working with Vista's IIS
(including FTP)?

#3: I read in this forum that you cannot set up an FTP site using Vista Home
Premium. Am I correct in assuming that I would need a thrid part app to set
this up on these machines? Any recommendations?

Thanks for your help.

Hi ,
Yes you can create an ftp site by using Vista Ultimate 32 where you and
your family, friends can upload-downloads picture ,video ,personal files
with authentication .but my dear friend please check that’s whether port
21,22 are open on not by your services provider because these are the port
that is required when you use ftp services .to check this go to command
prompt preferably of some other machine which is connected to www(internet)
and type. telnet < IP address of your machine > 21 press Enter. If you get
connected then its time to configure ftp . I hope that you have ftp services
installed on your machine just need to configure it .please go through this
link which help you in installation and configuring your ftp :

Wish you all the best .

Thanks

1) IIS FTP inside Vista is essentially the IIS ftp in XP or w2k3. Hence the
setup is similar.
just use windows turn on / off feature.. add in the component and viola...

2) Google IIS FTP setup is similiar..

3) Only business/ultimate edition built-in with IIS FTP. for home you need
3rd party.. servu ? wsftp pro ? etc.. google to find out.
