IIS (PWS) on XP authentication problem Quinton

iis security:
Hello, I have just installed IIS5 from the WinXP disk as
an additional component. When trying to access the
default page at the loopback address I get a
username/password box. After I enter a user (who I know
is in the Admin group on the box) it rejects the attempt
to login. I have the "Integrated Windows Authentication"
set on the directory for the default web site. I also
have that service set on my IE6. Never-the-less I still
get rejected.
A sysadmin here says that you need to be part of a domain
to get certain security (permissions) tabs on the
Properties menus of files. He said a trick was to put
the PC in the domain and then take it out and the
permissions tabs should remain. This didn't work.
With XP like it is I feel like I am using Win95
security. It only allows generic sharing with one shared
password for all users on a folder or file. It won't let
me give permissions to different users on the system.

Anyway, sorry for talking so much. My basic problem is
not being able to set up a secure folder in IIS that only
I can access on the web.

With the last problem you mention:

If you have Windows XP in workgroup mode, open an Explorer Window, goto
Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing"

You will now have a security tab when you right-click on a folder and choose
Properties.

It would also appear that your SysAdmin needs to be hit with a clue-by-four
:-)

Cheers
Ken
