Windows authentication Steve

iis security: Hi all,
I have an Intranet Win2K server running IIS 5. 3 websites
are defined - the default on port 80, and the admin site
and a sharepoint site on alternate ports. Security is set
to Window authentication for all sites, and NTFS security
to the appropriate directories is set accordingly.

When users connect to the server by netbios name they drop
into the default site and all works well. When trying to
connect using IP address however (a long story on why
they'd need to and it doesn't really matter), they are
prompted for NT authentication. I cannot determine why
this is happening however.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

This has to do with IE configuration and not IIS. In IE, Go to Tools ->
Internet Options -> Security -> Custom Level -> User Authentication -> Logon
and make sure it's not prompting for intranet use. You can also add your
domain or IP to the no proxy setting to get IE to recognize it as the
intranet. Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings ->
Advanced.

For security configuration you need to go Tools > Internet Options >
Security > Local intranet > Sites... > Advanced > Add this web site or IP to
the zone.
