iis security: I wanted to know what was last weeks events that happend
in microsofts software that allowed worms and viruses to
enter into the system. I am writing a paper on it for
school. I would be more than happy to know if there was
an artical from last week that i can referance so that it
would make it a whole lot easier to understand and to
show where i got the information from.
Thanks

There were a number of worms, the most common was one called MSBlaster,
which exploited a buffer overflow in the RPC service that is present on
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003. You can find
information on this here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html

There was also another worm called Sobig:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.f@mm.html
which did not exploit any particular Microsoft vulnerability. Instead, users
who received the email, and ran the attachment were infected. Their machines
started mailing out the worm to other people.

Cheers
Ken
