You can also use SelfSSL from the IIS6 Resource Kit, which automatically
configures a self-signed certificate so that you can do SSL testing. Since
it isn't signed by a trusted CA (like Verisign, Thawte, etc), browsers will
complain about its identity, but it should be sufficient to "quickly get SSL
working" on a machine by running a single command.
Furthermore, in the case where you control the client and the server, secure
communication using SSL is free when you use SelfSSL.
