iis security: I have searched the groups and wasn't able to find an answer. I have a
standalone Windows XP machine, not on a domain or active directory. I have
IIS running on the system. When I setup and web application to Integrated
Windows Authentication and access it via IE6 it works fine. In IE ,if I
change the User Authentication Logon to Prompt for user name and password.
And try the site again I get a login prompt but nothing I enter seems to
authenticate me to the site. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if
this is how it's supposed to work?

Hello,

I just tried, and it worked perfectly fine here. Are you sure you are using
the correct username and password?

Hello,
What are you typing in the domain field? Are you sure the username and
password you are using are valid and have permissions on the content? Whats
the error message in the browser after you provide the credentials?? Also
check the IIS logs to confirm the http error code.
You can also run the Authdiag tool
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e90fe777-4a21-4066-
bd22-b931f7572e9a&DisplayLang=en and check what permissions/rights that
user account may be missing

Hello,
You mean in the Integrated windows authentication prompt, you have specified
Domain: machinename
User: username
Password: password
If you haven't tried the above, do so and let us know if that worked. Also,
make sure this user account has the Access this computer from the network
right( Admin tools->Local security policy-> Local policies-> User rights
assignment).
