iis security: Hi all,

I'm trying to install Trend Officescan 5.5 onto a clean W2k3 / IIs 6.0
server, however the installation cannot create a necessary service.

The trend knowledgebase says I should run the service creation app
manually, however when I try to i get the following error ( Run as
server administrator)

"Access To IIS Restart API disabled to this computer"

and the service creation app hangs.

I also note that IISReset is disabled by default, and enabling it only
works for the current session - logging in again resets it to off.

A chocolate fish for anyone who can tell me:

Why IISReset doesn't stay enabled, and how to fix it.
What "Access To IIS Restart..." means, and how to fix it.

Cheers

IIS Restart API is enabled on all clean W2K3/IIS6 installation. That is the
default configuration.

Thus, you are running some application or group policy that is intentionally
disabling that API (and possibly disabling other parts of IIS), and it seems
to be running whenever you log onto the machine. Start looking there.

You will have to manually locate the culprit and stop it from messing with
your computer. I would start by getting rid of security/firewall software
one-by-one until you find the culprit -- those programs tend to do things to
intentionally break IIS.

Err. do 5.5 support IIS 6.0. You might want to try Trend Micro support.
