iis security : Running Executables

Hi,

I have an executable that needs to run when hit in a
browser, wa.exe. However, IE tries to open the file
rather than execute it. IE does not recognize that the
file type is IE.

I've created a cgi-bin folder with the executable located
within.

I've granted the following rights at the cgi-bin folder
level:
Script source access
read
log visits
index this resource

application name: wa.exe
Execute Permissions: Scripts and executables
application protection: low(IIS Process)

I also (under the configure button), added .exe and
pointed it to my wa.exe

Any help would be great!

Hi,

a) remove "Script Source Access"
b) application protection "low" is not really recommended - use only if
really required
c) you should not need step 3 below (I assume you hit the "configuration"
button on the "home directory" tab - unless your exe is an ISAPI Extension

All you need to do is change the execute permissions to "Scripts and
Executables"

Cheers
Ken
