We have a Webserver called webserver1 that we can get to from our main ste
without a problem. The problem is when we're at another location and we
cannot get to this server. I can't browse to it or ping it from another
location. The server is listed corectly in DNS. What would cause us to be
able to get to it from this location which is where the server i slocated but

we have nothing on the inside that would prevent us form getting to this
server. But on the location where the server is at can see the server. I've
tried both name and ip address with no luck.

Hi George,

are there any firewall between internet and the server? If yes, are
apropraite ports opened?

Hi,

Misconfigured TCP/IP settings on the server could also cause this. Make sure
that you have correct IP address (you probably do) but also pay attention to
subnet mask and default gateway...

If these are correct, make sure that are no network devices that are
blocking this access (e.g. router access lists, firewalls, ...)...

Can you access (e.g. ping) any other computer from the other location? Can
you access the other location computers from your webserver1?

Hi George,

Welcome to Microsoft newsgroup!

From your description, it seems the local access to the web server is good.
So I think there is no problem in IIS.

name and IP address with no luck"
If there is no firewall on the server, I think maybe the problem caused by
network. I suggest you use the "tracert" command with server IP or name to
trace the network, you will find where the error occurred.

Additionally, I appreciate Mike's suggestion and also wonder is there other
computers can access the web server?

I hope the suggestions were helpful. If you have any other concerns, please
feel free to let me know. It's my pleasure to be of assistance.

I get an error messgae when trying to browse to the another site from the web
server.

\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have permissions.

The network path was not found.

Is there somewhere where permissions are set up to allow browsing to and
from this server.

Hi George,

Thanks for your reply!

The message indicates the current user have not permission to access the
web server. Do you receive any error code like 404 or 401 in your browser?
Or you access the server under the "Run" command directly? If you want to
get the permission to the web server, I suggest you use the "net use"
command to try. The command like below:
net use \\servername /u:username password

Additionally, I wonder how about the result of executing the "tracert"
command?

I'm looking forward your reply!

tracert fails. It reaches both sides of the router but never reaches the
router on the other end. However we can ping and run a tracert for any
other server other than the 2003 servers that we have.

We get a page cannot be displayed when attempting to load the page from
other sits.

Hi George,

Thanks for your reply!

From the "tracert" result, the problem seems caused by network. I think you
will be able to receive the best support in the Networking Newsgroup.
Please open a new post in the Microsoft.public.window.networking newsgroup
to continue working on resolving this issue. Thanks for your understanding.
