iis security : Securing IIS 5.1 on XP Pro From External Access

Hello,

I am learning to code ASP.NET 1.1 using Visual Studio 2003 and have recently
installed IIS 5.1 for this purpose. I am running Win XP Pro SP2 with the
most current updates and using the Windows firewall.

I am concerned that my system may not be secure from outside access through
IIS.

I have attempted to use the IIS Lockdown tool v2.1 but this inteferes with
Visual Studio code debug/testing so, I have removed its modifications.

Is there any (preferably simple) way to alllow full access to local ASP.NET
apps while restricting (barring) outside access?

Also, could somebody recommend a good basic book on IIS 5.1 admin?

Windows firewall should do a pretty good job. You could always get a router
with firewall capabilities (most have them) to sit between you and the
internet.

The obvious is to disconnect the network cable. Using a firewall,
either built-in or a hardware one, and not opening port 80 should work
fine though.

Check Amazon for anything by Mitch Tullock or William Stanek. IIS5 on
Windows 2000 is the same thing.
