iis security : iis6 & asp.net 1.1: asp app cannot access folder

in iis6 on a DC and using asp.net 1.1, when running the asp application the
following message appears: "Server error in '/applicationname' Server cannot
access application directory D:\inetpub\wwwroot\applicationname\. The
directory does not exist or is not accessible because of security settings."
The iusr_ and iwam_ accounts have been given access to the application folder
as well as the parent wwwroot folder and asp has been allowed in the iis
security config settings. there does not seem to be an aspnet user account
created as the iis6 is running on a DC - and from what i understand in this
case it uses the iwam_machinename account, but i could be wrong here. is
there some other access that is needed or account that needs permission to

hi, thanks for the reply. i had seen that article but i think that it stated
in there that if it was .net 1.1 then the iwam_machine name just needed
access to the folder ( and not the aspnet user ). i had granted that account
permission as i understodd the article to be saying, but still no luck...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315158 here is an
article that describes asp.net and domain controllers.

Well Arg, I hate giving bad advice, what I would verify is the account that
is being restricted has at least list permissions on the root of the drive
and once you get down the sub-folders where the applications actually exist
then granting read/execute permissions. I run asp.net applications on a
domain controller with no issue just getting the permissions is a bit harder
because of the extra folder security and group membership the DC role has.
Is there any other errors in the event logs?

Steve.

hi, thanks again for the reply. i think that you are correct about the list
permissions for the root of the drive - good call there (thanks). i will
make this change and check the event logs (which i shoulda done before. haha)
and get back shortly.

e.
