what perms are needed for virtual directory on other server? mushu

iis security:
IIS 5.0 on Win2k server box. This is our Intranet server. We have
another server running Win2k that is a file server. We are running
Active Directory. I have created a "web" domain account that has access
to all servers, and that is what I am using as the Anonymous access
account. We are also using Basic & Integrated, because everyone in the
organization uses I.E. 6 browser.

I have set up a virdir on the web box that points to a directory on the
file server box. The directory contains a bunch of PDF files and a
default.asp that reads the filename & displays them to the web browser
as a clickable link so users can browse those files from the comfort of
their web browser.

I gave the virdir perms: script access, browse directory and the file
server dir ONLY has: domain users (read & list) and Admins (full).

When I go to the Intranet page and then click on the virdir link it
always pops up a Login box asking for username, password, domain.
Nothing ever works!! No matter what I enter, it NEVER authenticates me
to the server! What is going wrong?

I read about "delegation" and so added the delegation flag to the "web"
account but that doesn't seem to do anything either. In fact, since we
are using I.E. I think we can uncheck the "Anonymous" box on the virdir
and it should work fine with "Integrated".

This is very frustrating and a huge time drain - if anyone has the
slightest clue, please share with me!

user account access permissions to that virdir and try to access it from
intranet.

Thanks for the reply. How do I give a user account access perms to a
virtual directory? It is "virtual" after all...or do you mean the
physical directory on the file server where the default.asp webpage is
located?
