iis security:

I am using a development machine with Windows XP SP2 and I am trying to use
Basic Authentication. I get the message, â€œThe server localhost at localhost
requires a username and password.â€ I enter my username and password, three
times before getting the following error message.

HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed
Internet Information Services

The LDAP is used in other places and is working fine. Please let me know if
Iâ€™ve missed something or should check something in the setup.

401.1 manning something wrong with the logon credential.
e.g. wrong password/username, no privileges, etc

enable logon auditing and see you can find more clue in event log.
