How to setup smarthost with ISP smtp and authentication

My ISP is Adelphia using a cable modem. They allow email software, such as
outlook, to handle email by using the address mail.adelphia.net. I believe
they require authentication for outgoing mail, but am not sure. What I need

I would like to change the "c:\inetpub\" folder to a different path (for
varioius reasons) and have done that, except I cannot find where the SMTP
service specifies the pathname for c:\inetpub\mailroot.
Starting the SMTP service causes the mailroot (and sub folders) to be
created.

We are using IIS 6 with an anti spam product. IIS 6 is used is used as the
MTA with this antispam product. Therefore, we have configured IIS6 to
forward messages to our internal mail servers after the messages have been

having been hijacked by spammers, I have tightened the relay restrictions to
only allow authenticated computers.
This is a strange statement, I appreciate that IP filtering is an option,
but surely we are talking about authenticating USERS rather than computers
as a general rule.

to my 2003 server, however during the process of fault finding MX records of

DSL connections. I have some clients that use my Exchange 2K server with
