I need help setting up smtp in IIS. I have two sql server boxes running IIS
on them. The development server can send smtp messages from, but I can't
send them from the live server. I noticed the smtp service wasn't installed
on the live server. I installed the live server, but I still can't send the
smtp messages. I think I don't have the service configured properly. The
only thing I can find that appears that is different is the security tab
which I am having trouble adding object to. Also, I have read several
things about "Smart Host", but I don't know what this really is and how to

In case anyone ever has a problem like I had I wanted to post the answer
since I figured out how to fix the problem.

First, I noticed under IIS on my test server there was a smtp service
running. I looked under my live server and noticed there was no smtp
service listed.

After searching the web, I finally found a document that said how to install
the smtp service.
1. Start-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs
2. Add/Remove Windows Components
3. Select Application Server
4. Click the "Details" button
5. Select Internet Information Services(IIS)
6. Click the "Details" buttion
7. Check SMTP Service
8. Click OK and go back until you can click next to install the service
9. It doesn't ask you to reboot, but I tried this once without rebooting
and the service didn't work. Once I rebooted the service worked. However,
I don't know if everyone will need to reboot.
