Hi ...

I have been experiencing a similiar problem.

I have an EX2K server which is meant to forward emails to the EX2K server of
our holding company. On an intermittent basis certain emails are refused.
Most emails pass through freely. Our holding company say that they have no
restrctions in place. This seems to be an smtp error.

I have a connector for the domain which is setup to use a smart host to
forward the emails on to our holding companys EX2K server.

It seems to be that the format of the message causes it to be refused as
these emails have been created in rich text. I have not experienced this
problem with any of the emails I've sent but when I try to forward the other
users emails which were previously refused the problems occurs again. Below
is the txt of the error msg.

Please help.

Try these four suggestions:

1. NDRs that contain a 5.7.1 error code occur if the Allow computers
which successfully authenticate to relay check box is not selected on
the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server.

To locate this check box:
In Exchange System Manager, expand Servers, expand the container for
your server, expand Protocols and then expand SMTP.
Right-click the SMTP virtual server, and then click Properties.
Click the SMTP virtual server's Access tab, and then click Relay.

2. NDRs that contain a 5.7.1 error code occur if the Domain Name
System (DNS) tables are not configured correctly. Ensure that mail
exchanger (MX) records point to the correct SMTP virtual server. If
DNS is not configured correctly, incoming SMTP connection attempts
might randomly connect to the wrong SMTP virtual server.

Although the DNS records exist that point the domain to the server
running Exchange 2000, the matching recipient policy might not exist.
Recipient policies control the behavior of SMTP in addition to the
proxy addresses that are stamped on users. For each domain supported
by your DNS configuration, there should be a recipient policy. For
more information about creating or updating recipient policies, see
"To create new recipient policies," later in this tip.

3. NDRs that contain a 5.7.1 error code occur if users have e-mail
addresses that were created manually but do not match any existing
recipient policies. As a general rule, proxy addresses should match at
least one recipient policy. For more information about creating or
updating recipient policies, see "To create new recipient policies,"
later in this tip.

4. 5.7.1 and 5.7.3 errors might also occur if you are using Microsoft
Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000. If the external
IP address of the server running ISA Server changes, and the IP
address for the SMTP publishing rule is not updated to reflect the new
IP address, an NDR results. In addition, if you do not restart the
Isactrl service after changing the IP address in the SMTP publishing
rule, an NDR results.
